BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Golf team secured a second-place finish at the RWU Inviational, posting a team total of 712 (374-338), highlighted by an individual medalist performance from McKenna Marcoux (Bethel, Conn.).
Marcoux led the field with a two-round score of 191 (+49), earning first-place honors behind rounds of 99 (+28) and 92 (+21). Rileigh Gouveia (Jamestown, R.I.) competed as an additional team golfer in the second round and carded a 134 (+63) at The Aquidneck Club. Grace Tarro (Barrington, R.I.) placed seventh overall with a 238 (+96), posting rounds of 126 (+55) and 112 (+41), while Emily Soter (Spencer, Mass.) finished eighth with a 295 (+153) after rounds of 149 (+78) and 146 (+75).
In the opening round, Roger Williams posted a team score of 374, counting three scores toward the total. Marcoux led the way with a 99, followed by Tarro's 126 and Soter's 149 to round out the scoring.
The Hawks showed significant improvement in the second round, shaving 36 strokes with a team score of 338. Marcoux once again paced the lineup with a 92, while Tarro added a 112. With an expanded lineup, Gouveia contributed a 134 as one of the three counting scores for the day.
Gordon captured the team title with a score of 633 (321-312), placing three golfers inside the top five. Myla Glaser led Gordon with a runner-up finish at 196 (+54), followed by Elizabeth Parent in fourth (213, +71) and Kimmy Stevenson in fifth (227, +85).
The Hawks will return to action on Monday, Apr. 27, at the Hartford Wampanoag Invitational at Wampanoag Country Club.
