NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team currently sits sixth at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Team Race National Championship.
The Hawks posted a 7-5 record for the opening day, holding a 58.3 percentage. Harvard (11-0) currently holds the lead followed by Stanford (10-2), Brown (8-3), U.S. Naval Academy (7-3), and Charleston (7-4).
The team of skippers, Carlos Bermudez de Castro (La Coruña, Spain) sailing with Addy Fisher (Charleston, S.C.), Kyle Pfrang (Suffolk, Va.) with Jed Lory (Severna Park, Md.), and Oliver Stokke (Santa Barbara, Calif.) as skipper for crew Carter Sheehan (Middletown, R.I.) combined for the day.
Roger Williams opened the day with a loss to Charleston, before going on a win streak. The Hawks took a 1-2-3 win over Hobart and Williams Smith, a 1-2-4 win over Dartmouth, and a 1-2-3 win over Northwestern. RWU continued their streak with a 1-3-5 win over Georgetown and a 1-2-4 win over Tufts.
The Hawks dropped to Harvard, Tulane, and Stanford. Against the U.S. Naval Academy, RWU took a 1-3-4 win. Pennsylvania took the 2-3-4 win over the Hawks, but RWU closed day one with a 1-4-5 win over Boston College.
Sailing at the ICSA Open Team Race National Championship will continue on Friday, Apr. 24 at 10:00 a.m.
