BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team had a strong weekend, placing second at the Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup, third at the NEISA Open Fleet Race Championship, and fourth at the NEISA Women's Fleet Race Championship.
At the Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup, the Hawks placed second overall with 158 total points. In Division B, the Hawks team of Bo Angus (Richmond, Va.) and Jancy Grayson (Falmouth, Mass.) took the top spot with 31 points. Jack Roman (Newport Beach, Calif.) added 63 points in Division B, while the duo of Connor McHugh (Annandale, N.J.) and Maggie Fleming (San Diego, Calif.) added 65 points in Division A.
At the NEISA Open Fleet Race Championships at Coast Guard, RWU took third place. In Division A, the team of Carlos Bermudez de Castro (La Coruña, Spain), Kyle Pfrang (Suffolk, Va.), Addy Fisher (Charleston, S.C.), and Jed Lory (Severna Park, Md.) took first with 38 points. The team of Oliver Stokke (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Tristan McDonald (Lake Forest, Ill.), Carter Sheehan (Middletown, R.I.), and Dawson Chambers-Tartaglino (Somers, Mont.) placed fifth in Division B with 68 points.
At the NEISA Women's Fleet Race Championship, the Hawks placed fourth. In Division A, Lucy Meagher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Maren Matthews (Harbor Springs, Mich.), and Lexi Chigas (Glenview, Ill.) placed fifth with 63 points, while Tavia Smith (Wilmington, N.C.), Katie McGagh (League City, Texas), Mackenzie Speece (Shelter Island, N.Y.), and Elyssa Franklin (St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands) placed seventh with 82 points.
Roger Williams will head to Tulane University for the Open Team Race Nationals on Apr. 23-25 and Women's Team Race Nationals on Apr. 26-27.
