SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Track & Field team delivered a strong showing at the New England Division III Championships this weekend, highlighted by a first-place finish in the decathlon from Justin Dickson (Londonderry, N.H.) setting a new school record in the process.
Dickson led the way for the Hawks with a dominant performance in the decathlon, earning first place with 6,606 points. Dickson secured event victories in the shot put (12.20m), 400 meters (51.54), discus (37.61m), javelin (49.86m), and 1500 meters (4:23.62), while also adding a second-place finish in the 100 meters (11.36) to pace his overall win. Dickson also reset his school mark in the event, by 258 points.
Napoleon Suderman (Winchester, Mass.) scored for Roger Williams with a sixth-place finish in the discus throw, recording a mark of 44.08 meters to earn three team points. Suderman also competed in the hammer throw, placing 17th with a distance of 44.71 meters.
Ronald Nolin (Pepperell, Mass.) fnisished 13th finish in the high jump, clearing 1.87 meters.
On the track, Eli Labell (South Hamilton, Mass.) turned in a strong performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing ninth with a time of 9:48.22. Kyle Tarpy (Haverhill, Mass.) competed in the 10,000 meters, placing 11th with a time of 33:01.80.
The Roger Williams 4x100-meter relay team posted a time of 43.88 to finish 17th, with the team being composed of Will Hight (Rowley, Mass.), Williams Volpe (Cumberland, R.I.), Constantine Georgopoulos (Reading, Mass.), and Jayden Rinaldni (Bristol, Conn.)
Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) added a scoring performance in the javelin throw, placing seventh with a mark of 37.73 meters to earn two team points.
