BRISTOL, R.I. – The women's swimming and diving team remains undefeated in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with its 172-96 win Thursday over visiting Gordon College.
The Hawks started the meet with a 0.79 victory in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and followed that up by taking first, second and third in the 1000 Yard Freestyle to take a 29-6 lead.
Later, freshman Sarah Beron (North Providence, R.I.) took first in the 50 Yard Backstroke and freshman Ursula Nickerson (Torrington, Conn.) placed first in the 50 Yard Breaststroke. In the 50 Yard Freestyle, senior Jill Mackey (Redding, Conn.) earned the first-place finish. The Hawks also won the 50 Yard Butterfly, as senior Katy Friedrich (Stratham, N.H.) posted the only sub-30-second time. Friedrich also won the 200 Yard Butterfly, posting a time of 2:27.26.
Sophomore Caitlin O'Connor (Wallingford, Conn.) posted the only time under one minute to win the 100 Yard Freestyle by nearly three seconds.
The team has no time to rest as they hit the road Friday for a non-conference meet at Eastern Connecticut State University beginning at 6 p.m.
