HAMPTON, Va. – The Roger Williams University Women's Swimming team began competition on Thursday evening at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships at the Hampton Aquaplex.
The Hawks saw the 200 Medley Relay in 1:50.05, while Avery Watson (Niskayuna, N.Y.) finished the 50-backstroke split in 28.40, followed by Mattia McIntyre (Norton, Mass.) with a 31.10 breaststroke split. In the 50 butterfly, Avery Benigni (Meriden, Conn.) finished in 26.06, ahead of the 50-freestyle, being finished by Shae Gonzales (Pottstown, Pa.) in 24.49.
The Hawks then competed, finishing fifth in the 800-freestyle relay, as the squad posted a 7:56.65 time. Gonzales finished the opening 200 split in 1:59.32, ahead of AvaGrace Zettler (Allendale, N.J.) finishing in 2:01.36 to finish the opening half. Watson and Claire Dombrofski (West Hartford, Conn.) finished their splits in 1:57.15 and 1:58.82, respectively, to close out the race.
Roger Williams will return to the pool on Friday morning to continue the NJAC Championships.
