Women’s Swimming and Diving Victorious at TCCC Invite

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Swimming and Diving team put on an impressive performance at the TCCC Invite. The women accumulated a total of 690 points to get a dominant win, 188 points ahead of the second place team from Colby-Sawyer.

Going into the second day of the meet the Hawks were in the lead with 210 points. The second session saw the Hawks score from a number of different competitors. The 200-yd Medley Relay team consisting of #Ashley Kichline# (Souderton, Pa.), #Kelly Meacham# (Southington, Conn.), #Jacqui Cohen# (Commack, N.Y.) and #Casey Meagher# (Billerica, Mass.) took home first with a time of 1:59.61, just a second and three hundredths ahead of the squad from the University of New England. Kichline also was victorious in the 100-yd Backstroke. In the 400-yd Individual Medley #Ursula Nickerson# (Torrington, Conn.) placed first while teammate #Lauren Marchese# (Hillsborough, N.J.) took third. Also winning her event was #Melly Marrington# (Farmington, Conn.) in the 100-yd Butterfly. In the final event of Session Two #Brigid Houlihan# (Nahant, Mass.) won in the 1650-yd Freestyle with a time of 19:34.88.

After Session Two was complete, RWU was in the lead with 461 points followed by the University of New England with 289, Colby-Sawyer with 148, Western New England College with 142, Regis with 105, and the Gordon College Swim Team rounding things out with 69 points.

After a brief break the teams got back into the pools and resumed competition. In the opening event of the third session Kichline won another event, the 200-yd Backstroke. In the 200-yd Breaststroke Nickerson took home the win and Meacham took third. Later on, Junior #Caitlin O'Connor# (Wallingford, Conn.) broke a school record in the 200-yd Butterfly with a time of 2:18.84, she was followed by classmate #Laura Colley# (Barrington, R.I.) in second. For the 400-yd Freestyle Relay, Marrington, Kichline, O'Connor and Meagher would team up and get yet another victory for the Hawks. Another school record would be broken in the 1-Meter Diving event, as #Laura Folsom# (Simsbury, Conn.) received a score of 346.50. Folsom also won the 3-Meter event.

After it was all said and done the RWU Women's swimming and diving team had a total of 690 points which made for a dominant win over the competition. A total team effort resulted in the team's fifth consecutive win at the TCCC Invitational. The invite marked the last event of the year for the Hawks, they will return to the pool for a meet against the University of New England on January 23rd.
