Hawks rank seventh after Day Two of N.E. Championships

BRISTOL, R.I.The RWU women's swimming and diving team stand in seventh place with 340 points after Day Two of the three-day NEISDA Championships held at Umass-Dartmouth.

After 17 events, the University of New England slipped ahead of the Hawks, totaling 345 points, while Keene State continues to lead the meet with 649 points followed by Bentley University and Saint Michael's College with 563 and 383 points, respectively.

RWU started the day taking fourth place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay to garner 40 points from the combination of freshmen Sarah Beron (North Providence, R.I.) and Ursula Nickerson (Torrington, Conn.), sophomore Caitlin O'Connor (Wallingford, Conn.) and senior Jill Mackey (Redding, Conn.).

RWU totaled 20 points over the next four events before Nickerson placed 11th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 11:11.87 to record 11 points for the Hawks.


In Event 16, the 1000 Yard Freestyle which was run as a timed final earlier in the day, RWU senior Shari Rothgeb (Denver, Col.) gathered 18 points with her sixth-place finish in a time of 11:22.01.


 
In the final event of the day, RWU registered 38 points with a fifth-place finish in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay. Rothgeb, O'Connor, Brigid Houlihan (Nahant, Mass.) and Erin Leonhardt (Brewster, Mass.) finished with a time of 8:27.89.
