Women's Swimming and Diving sink Eastern Connecticut State

BRISTOL, R.I. – The RWU Women's Swimming and Diving Team earned a 154.5 – 125.5 victory over the visiting Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State University in the Campus Recreation Center Saturday afternoon.

The contest began with the Warriors taking 11 points for their victory in the 200-yard Medley Relay by a margin of only 0.86. RWU junior #Marissa Carr# (Arlington, Mass.) and senior Brigid Houlihan (Nahant, Mass.) helped the Hawks bounce back to take the lead after placing first and second, respectively in the 1000-yard Freestyle. After another Eastern win in the 200-yard Freestyle, freshman #Ashley Kichline# (Souderton, Pa.) posted a time of 1:03.77 to take first in the 100-yard Backstroke. She later posted a time of 2:18.23 to take first place in the 200-yard Backstroke.

RWU freshman #Melly Marrington# (Farmington, Conn.) won the 50-yard Freestyle event with a time of 26.69 and also tied for first in the 50-yard Butterfly with a time of 28.84. RWU dominated the 500-yard Freestyle, as Houlihan, Carr and sophomore #Olivia Matthes# (West Islip, N.Y.) took the top three spots, respectively.

The Hawks finished the day with a victory in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay with Carr, #Sarah Mamula# (Madison, Conn.), Houlihan and Matthes combining for the victory in a time of 1:48.68.

The win is the fifth-straight for RWU, including The Commonwealth Coast Conference Invitational Championship before winter break. The Hawks look to continue their winning ways Saturday when they travel to Trinity, Conn., to face the Trinity Bantams beginning at 1 p.m.
