LOWELL, Mass. - This is the first event of the 2011-2012 season. The team departed Roger Williams at 5:30 a.m. for a full day of racing. This was the first competition for the team's new four, Perseverance. For the first time in recent memory the team launched every boat in our fleet, at one point with four of the five boats on the water at the same time.
There were over 600 racing shells of various classes. The Roger Williams University crews did extremely well in a strong field of competitors over a 5.8 Km race course. The crews rowed over 5 Km to the start point, then raced 5.8 Km, then rowed 2 Km back to the recovery point for an on the water distance of 12 Km non-stop rowing from launch to recovery.
The team returned to RWU at approximately 7:00 PM. There were no injuries or serious incidents to report.
