QUINCY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis defeated Eastern Nazarene 9-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference tennis action on Tuesday. The Hawks improve to 4-3 on the season, and 3-2 in conference play. With the loss, the Lions drop to 2-8 and have yet to win a CCC match.
Roger Williams swept all three of the doubles matches 8-1. Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) and Samantha Curran (Barrington, R.I.) defeated Sharon Lemire and Elise Sleeper at number one doubles. Alison Cornell and Samantha Jones lost to Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.) and Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) at number two. In number three doubles, Cara Nelson and Juju Atwater found themselves overmatched by Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, Conn.) and Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Grove, N.J.).
Roger Williams dominated singles play, with individual matches one through six going to the Hawks. Klein took #1 singles 6-1, 6-1 from Sleeper, while Wolfe beat ENC's Lemire 6-0, 6-1 at number two. RWU's Magner zeroed Jones at number three and Hawk teammate Olivia Hilton ousted Cornell 6-1, 6-1. At number five singles, Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Conn.) blanked Nelson 6-0, 6-0. Juju Atwater faced RWU's Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.) at number six singles, and fell 6-2, 6-0.
Both teams will face off against CCC opponents on September 29th. The Lions will play Salve Regina and the Hawks will be matched up against Curry. The start time for both games will be 3:30 p.m.
