BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team earned its first win of the season with an 8-1 victory over Rhode Island College at home Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks were paced by Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.), who played a part in two of the wins on the day for RWU. Wolfe picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win against Gabriela Batek (Greenville, R.I.) at #2 singles. At doubles play, she paired with Libby Magner (Lakefield, Mass.) for an 8-4 victory at #2 against Doris Belanger (West Warwick, R.I.) and Gianna Vallante (Coventry, R.I.).
The Anchorwomen were able to get their sole point of the day at #1 doubles, with Batek and Chelsea Brown (Wallingford, Conn.) teaming up for a 8-3 victory against Caitlin Osepchuk (Ocean Grove, N.J.) and Hillary Dutton (Cheshire, Conn.).
At the third doubles matchup, Alexandra Reilly (North Easton, Mass.) and Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.) took their #3 match over Taylor Clark (Bristol, R.I.) and Amanda Ferri (Central Falls, R.I.) by an 8-1 score.
In singles play, Olivia Hilton (Vernon, Conn.) and Kristin Dono (West Boylston, Conn.) won their respective #5 and #6 matches against Clark and Ferri by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) grabbed a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #1 against Brown, while Dutton defeated Belanger 6-0, 6-1 at #3. Osepchuk wrapped up the singles wins for the Hawks with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #4 against Vallante.
Roger Williams (1-1) opens up conference play next Saturday against Western New England University, while Rhode Island College (0-2) hosts Emmanuel on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
