ORLANDO, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team began play down in Florida with a 3-6 loss to Illinois Wesleyan Monday afternoon.
Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) and Samantha Curran (Cumberland, R.I.) combined for an 8-5 win over Andrea Kerwin and Lauren Drawbridge. Svenja Schroeder and Helen Alex would then knot the match at one apiece after defeating Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) Olivia Hilton (Vernon, Conn.) 9-7. The Titans got another point by winning #3 doubles by default.
At singles play, Illinois Wesleyan earned another point with a default win at #6, taking a 3-1 lead. The Hawks were able to get wins at #3 and #5, with Schmidt beating Drawbridge 6-4, 6-0 at #3 and Hilton grabbing a 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 win at #5. Yet the Titans took the other three singles matches, with Kerwin and Alex notching 6-3, 6-3 wins over Klein and Curran at #1 and #2, respectively. Schroeder also won at #4, defeating Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.) 7-5, 6-3.
Roger Williams (9-5) will play Bryn Mawr next on Thursday after today's match has been postponed due to rain.
