Women’s closes out year with split against Mt. Holyoke and Smith

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team notched a split in the team's final matches over the 2014-15 season. The Hawks dropped an 8-1 decision to Mount Holyoke College before collecting a 6-3 win against Smith College.
 
In the Mount Holyoke match, Sarah Anischik (Tolland, Conn.) won her final collegiate match, posting a 7-5, 7-5 win over first year Kathryn Hughes (Westford, Mass.) in second singles. She and partner Amy Chen (Hilo, Hawaii) opened the match with an 8-4 win in second doubles over sophomores Harley Kaiserman (Setauket, N.Y.) and Caroline McCarthy (Carver, Mass.).
 
Also in singles action, first year Ishita Tibrewal (Kolkata, India) posted a 6-0, 7-5 win against Kaiserman in the third flight, while sophomore Alexa Colas (Teaneck, N.J.) gutted out a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over McCarthy at four.
 
Junior Michelle Cai (Hong Kong, China) went on to claim a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3) win against first year Ali Stankiewicz (Brunswick, Maine) at five, while Chen defeated first year Gabrielle Riley (Barnstable, Mass.) at six, 6-4, 6-3.
 
In the other doubles flights, Tibrewal and junior Margaux Holloschutz (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) won by an 8-2 margin against junior Lauren Schmidt (South Windsor, Conn.) and first year Julia Akerman (Greenwich, Conn.).
 
Colas and Cai then notched an 8-5 victory over Riley and Hughes for the doubles sweep.
 
For the Hawks, Schmidt picked up the lone point, securing a first singles victory over Holloschutz. She won by a 6-3, 6-4 margin.
 
In the match against Smith, the Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles. Schmidt and Akerman took down Jordan Dubin and Ruth Yi 8-3 at #1, with Kaiserman and McCarthy notching an 8-4 win over Samantha Peikes and Margaret Anne Smith. Hughes and Riley then teamed up for the 8-3 victory over Seema Samawi and Kelli Cheung.
 
Dubin got the Pioneers on the board with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Schmidt at No. 1 singles, then  
Peikes followed with her fourth straight win, defeating Kaiserman at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
 
Smith got the Pioneers to within one (4-3) with a win at No. 4 singles, defeating Alexandra Brown (Kennett, Mo.), 6-4, 6-1. Yet the Hawks sealed the victory with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles by McCarthy over Yi (7-5, 6-2) and Stankiewicz over Samawi (6-1, 6-0).
 
Roger Williams ends the year at 14-7
