Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team handed Eastern Connecticut State University a 3-1 non-conference loss Saturday afternoon in the Campus Rec Center.
Â
The opening set was close early on, until the Hawks were able to pull away from the Warriors. With the set tied at four apiece, Roger Williams would go on to score 12 of the next 14 points to take a 16-6 lead and force a Warrior timeout. RWU's ten-point advantage would prove to be too much for ECSU to overcome, as the Hawks cruised to the 25-15 win.
Â
In the second set, Eastern Connecticut State came back with a vengeance, jumping all over RWU. Holding a slim 2-1 lead, the Warriors essentially put the set out of reach with a 14-3 run to go on top 16-4. ECSU never let RWU come back closer than nine and eventually ran away with the 25-14 win.
Â
The third set saw the Hawks use an early run to get some breathing room. Trailing 2-3, RWU rolled off eight straight points to go up by seven (10-3). The Warriors managed to come back and pull within one (17-18). However, RWU would not let ECSU regain the lead, scoring four of the final five points of the game to collect the 25-19 win.
Â
In the final set, the Hawks broke a 3-3 tie with five consecutive points to take a lead that they would not give up. ECSU brought it to within two (11-13), but never came closer.
