BRISTOL, R.I. –The Roger Williams University men's and women's swimming and diving team led the way at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Swimming Invitational, which took place on Saturday. The men took first place with 210 points in the 24-event competition, while the women earned 237 points to take the title.
The men's swimming and diving team had a very successful day breaking two pool records in the men's 200 yard medley relay and the men's 200 freestyle relay.
The University of New England tied for second-place in the women's competition with 63 points. Gordon and Western New England were the other CCC competitors and earned 29 and 14 points, respectively.
On the men's side, Gordon finished with 23 points to place fifth as team and UNE earned 20 points to finish in sixth.
The Hawks placed first in the women's 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:53.08 from team members
Hannah Nolte,
Kenzie Sweeney, Andrea Alamndoz and
Mackenzie Webber.
The men's 200 yard medley relay team set a pool record Saturday with a time of 1:39.53 from team members
Hunter Olson,
John Babuka,
David Kitchen and Gabe Pasqualucci.
Andrea Alamdoz took first for the women's 200 yard IM with a time of 2:17.45, followed by
Shannon Earley with a time of 2:20.63 and finishing in third was
Hannah Nolte with a time of 2:21.31.
David Kitchen also, finished in first place in the men's 200 yard IM with a time of 1:58.89 followed by
Hunter Olson with a time of 2:02.78.
Mackenzie Webber took first in the women's 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.40 as well the the women's 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.81 and in second place was
Shantelle Richards with a time of 56.81. Gabe Pasqualucci also finished in first in the men's 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.39. Pasqualucci continued his first place finishes placing first in the men's 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.14.
John Babuka placed first in the men's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.89. The Hawks finished in first place in the women's 200 yard freestyle relay, consisting of
Hannah Nolte,
Shantelle Richards,
Alyssa Bush, and
Mackenzie Webber with a final time of 1:43.97.
The men also pulled out a first place finish and another pool record in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay from team members Gabe Pasqualucci, Mike Sannicandro,
Paul Marchese and
David Kitchen with a time of 1:29.09.
The women continued to dominate with a first and second place finish in the women's 100 yard backstroke from
Mackenzie Webber with a final time of 1:03.04 followed closely by
Hannah Nolte with a final time of 1:03.7. The Hawks took both first place finishes in the men's and women's 100 yard breaststroke from
Kenzie Sweeney with a time of 1:12.13 and
David Kitchen with a time 1:01.37.
The Hawks finished out the day with two first place finishes in the 400 yard freestyle relay from both the men's and women's team.
The Hawks compete again Saturday, October 29
th at 1PM hosting Keene State.
