Swimming and Diving Place First and Second at the NEISDA Championship

Kingston, R.I.- The Roger Williams University men's and women's swimming and diving team finished up at the NEISDA championship with victories. The women's swimming and diving team walked away with the championship and the men's swimming and diving team placed second at the NEISDA championship hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
 
The men's swimming and diving team competed all weekend to stay on top.  Paul Marchese finished the 100 yard freestyle with a final time of 49.99. David Kitchen placed second in the men's 200 yard backstroke with a final time of 2:09.46. Mathew Mackenzie also placed in the men's 200 yard backstroke with a final time of 2:20.40 followed by John Chow with a time of 2:24.34. Andrew Gillie placed third in the men's 200 yard butterfly with a final time of 1:57.21. The hawks 400 yard freestyle relay consisting of Christian Royer, Hunter Olson, Paul Marchese and Ryne Wallace placed third with a final time of 3:14.68. The men's swimming and diving team finished second in the NEISDA championship with a final score of 599.5
 
The women's swimming and diving team also fought all weekend to stay on top and walk away in first place at the NEISDA championship. Katherine Johnson finished the 100 yard freestyle with a final time of 54.89. Shannon Earley placed third in the 1650 yard freestyle with a final time of 18:22.89 followed by Gabrielle Pielka who placed fourth with a final time of 18:24.12. Sophomore, Mackenzie Webber received first place in the women's 50 yard backstroke with a final time of 27.16. Haley Martel also, walked away in first for the women's 200 yard breaststroke with a final time of 2:25.23. Abigail Kline finished in third in the women's 200 yard butterfly with a time of  2:15.03. Hannah Nolte also placed third in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:02 47. The hawks 400 yard freestyle relay team consisting of Mackenzie Webber, Andrea Almandoz, Katherine Johnson and Hannah Nolte finished in second with a final time of 3:39.74. The women's swimming and diving team took home the championship for the NEISDA Championships with a final score of 1453.

The hawks travel to Annaplois, MD for the ECAC Championships February 27-March 1st.
