BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team qualified for the Atlantic Coast Championship after a weekend off from racing.
At the Professor Schell Trophy, the Hawks raced to a runner-up finish at the regatta to earn a berth to the Atlantic Coast Championship.
Mackenzie Bryan (Christiansted, USVI) and Jennifer Agell (Huntington, N.Y.) ended with a third-place finish at A Division, winning the tiebreaker with Tufts. The duo logged ten finishes among the top six including one win and a pair of runner-up results. At B Division,
Martim Anderson (Lisbon, Portugal) and
Rebecca Anderson (Northport, N.Y.) also rolled to third place overall. They would place in the top ten in 14 of the 18 races with seven top-four results and one win.
At the Nickerson Trophy, Roger Williams grabbed 11
th place overall. Spencer Cartwright (Nassau, Bahamas), Leif Bergstrom (Hood River, Ore.), and Emily Gildea (Palos Park, Ill.) all sailed at A Division, placing tenth overall. They combined for six races in the top seven with a best finish of second place in the second race. Paul de Souza (Nassau, Bahamas), Riley Read (Portland. Ore.), and Darcy Lavoie (Burlington, Vt.) sailed at B Division, also notching a tenth-place showing. The three Hawks finished with six top-ten races overall, including a pair of fifth-place results.
At the Victorian Urn Trophy, RWU placed 16
th overall.
Janel DeCurtis (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Ariana Smaldone (Tiverton, R.I.) took 16
th place at A Division, with their two best races a seventh-place and ninth-place finish on the weekend. Rachel Holick (Lawrence, N.J.) and Kristi Dolan (West Islip, N.Y.) also collected a 16
th place finish for RWU. They would post an eight-place and ninth-place finish at the regatta.
