Sailing Participates In Light Weekend

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team embarked on a light weekend of racing, competing in two regattas with a pair of top-seven results.

At the Sister Esther Open, hosted by Salve Regina, the Hawks rallied to a runner-up finish against the 20-team field. Spencer Cartwright (Nassau, Bahamas) and Emily Gildea (Palos Park, Ill.) notched the win at A Division, posting a 14-point victory over Mack Fox and Christina Nothacker of Coast Guard. Cartwright and Gildea sailed well all day, logging four wins, two runner-up results, and never finishing lower than sixth. At B Division, Leif Bergstrom and Rachel Holick took eighth place via tiebreaker. Over the course of the weekend, they would collect three wins as part of their six finishes among the top eight.

At Hap Moore Team Race, hosted by Connecticut College, Roger Williams finished in seventh place. The Hawks struggled a bit on the team, coming away with one victory over the University of Virginia in their seven races. Competing for RWU were Edward Lebens (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Megan Roach (Newport Beach, Calif.), Preston Duclos (Westport, Mass.), Kylie Freitas (Escondido, Calif.), Daniel Petrovic (Tortola, BVI), and Tyler Killion (Dallas, Texas).
