BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team opening its 2017-18 campaign by taking to the water at four regattas.
 
At the 75^th Pine Trophy at Coast Guard, the Hawks raced to a fifth-place performance. In the single-division regatta, Edward Lebens (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Megan Roach (Newport Beach, Calif.), Alden Crowe (Summerland, Calif.), Michael McBrien (East Patchogue, N.Y.), and Kendal Richardson (The Valley, Anguilla) all sailed for RWU on the weekend. They would combine for two wins and three runner-up results.
 
At the Hawks' home regatta of the Mount Hope Bay Invitational, RWU came away with seventh place. At A Division, Leif Bergstrom (Hood River, Ore.), Spencer Cartwright (Nassau, Bahamas), and Kristi Dolan (West Islip, N.Y.) turned in a tenth-place finish for RWU. They sailed to a pair of third-place races as a part of their four top-eight results. Riley Read (Portland, Ore.), Paul de Souza (Nassau, Bahamas), and Rachel Holick (Lawrence, N.J.) took third place via tiebreaker at B Division. They would finish sixth or better in six races including a win and two second-place races.
 
At the 43^rd Henry H. Anderson Jr. Trophy at Yale, Roger Williams finished the weekend in ninth place. Martim Anderson (Lisbon, Portugal) and Rebecca Anderson (Northport, N.Y.) posted a seventh-place finish at A Division. Over the course of their 16 races, the duo placed in the top-seven in nine races including a win. Conner Harding (Naples, Fla.), Jennifer Agell (Huntington, N.Y.), and Dane Pedersen (Chanhassen, Minn.) took ninth place at B Division. They would log nine results in the top eight with two-runner-up results.
 
At the Toni Deutsch MIT '58 Trophy, the Hawks earned 11^th place. Janel DeCurtis (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Ariana Smaldone (Tiverton, R.I.) picked up a tenth-place finish at A Division, posting one second and one third among their six races in the top seven. Emily Gildea (Palos Park, Ill.) and Kylie Freitas (Escondido, Calif.) took 12^th place at B Division. They would post their best finish in the penultimate race, going for second place in the 14^th race of the weekend.
