BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team earned another regatta victory this past weekend as part of their three races.
At the Graham Hall Team Race, the Hawks came away in first-place among the 16-team field. In the first round robin, the Hawks defeated 13 of the 15 teams, collecting wins over Georgetown, Navy, George Washington, St. Mary's, Old Dominion, NY Maritime, Fordham, Kings Point, Cornell, Pennsylvania, Charleston, Yale, and Tufts. The second round robin consisted of four wins out of the five teams, only losing to Yale. Sailing for Roger Williams in the Severn River were

At the Ike Geiger Team Race Trophy, the Hawks took second place overall after tying for a first-place finish against Boston University and Harvard University. Boston University came in first place whereas Harvard University ended in third. Roger Williams began the regatta with a 6-2 record, defeating MIT, Boston University, Bowdoin, Boston College, URI, and Vermont. The race ended shortly after the first round due to temperatures in the low 30s all day long with sailors becoming exhausted. Sailing for Roger Williams was Spencer Cartwright (Nassau, Bahamas), Edward Lebens (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), Preston Duclos (Westport, Mass.), Daniel Petrovic (Tortola, BVI), Emily Gildea (Palos Park, III.), Dane Pedersen (Chanhassen, Minn.), Kylie Freitas (Escondido, Calif.), and Hallie Repeta (Portland, Maine).
Roger Williams wrapped up the weekend at Vietor Trophy, with a finish of 7
th place out of 16 teams. Kelsey Shakin (Boston, Mass.) and
Megan Roach (Newport Beach, Calif.) took fifth place at A Division. They managed to finish top five in one of the three races.
Janel DeCurtis (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Ariana Smaldone (Tiverton, R.I.) then took 10
th place in the B Division after a head-to-head tiebreaker versus URI. DeCurtis and Smaldone finished top ten in all three races.
Next weekend the team will compete in the BU Team Race at Boston University, Central Series 2 at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, and the 58
th FRIIS Trophy Team Race at Roger Williams University.
