NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team earned another national championship berth after a dominant performance on the water this past weekend.
 
At the NEISA Coed Championship/Alumni Bowl, hosted by Coast Guard, the Hawks punched their ticket to the ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship after their runner-up result at the regatta. Mackenzie Bryan (Christiansted, USVI), Jennifer Agell (Huntington, N.Y.), and Dane Pedersen (Chanhasset, Minn.) collected seventh place in a tightly-contest A Division with only 14 points separating the top eight spots. The Hawks posted two wins and two second-place races as part of their seven races among the top five. At B Division, Martim Anderson (Lisbon, Portugal), Rebecca Anderson (Northport, N.Y.), and Michael McBrien (East Patchogue, N.Y.) took second place. They finished in the top seven in 12 of the 14 races with two wins and two runner-up finishes.
 
After the Coed Championship, All-NEISA honors were handed out and Martim Anderson was named to the All-NEISA First Team as a skipper, along with Bryan. Selected to the All-NEISA First Team - Crew were Agell and Rebecca Anderson, with Anderson also named a finalist for NEISA Crew of the Year. Rounding out the honors was McBrien, who was selected All-NEISA Second Team – Crew.
 
At the Coast Guard J70 Open, the Hawks sailed to fifth place. In the single division regatta, Alden Crowe (Summerland, Calif.), Henry Stames (Duxbury, Mass.), Ariana Smaldone (Tiverton, R.I.), and Riley Read (Portland, Ore.) represented RWU. Over the course of the weekend, they would collect three wins and two second-place finishes among their 16 races.
