Welcome to the newest RWU Athletics weekly feature, Alumni Profiles. Here we will be featuring a former Roger Williams student-athlete and catching up with them on their career since graduating from RWU.
Â
Our next entry comes from Brian Hann. Brian was a four-year member of the Men's Swimming & Diving team and graduated from RWU in 2017 as a Civil Engineering Major and Mathematics Minor. Over the course of his career, he was a two-time All-New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association swimmer and was named team captain in his junior year. In addition, he helped the team capture its first NEISDA Championship in his senior year.

What is your current job title and what does that entail?
I am an Assistant Project Manager/Assistant Superintendent at Aetna Bridge Company. I oversee and organize day-to-day construction activities on multi-million dollar bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects. I work directly with both our field and office staff as an assistant superintendent and assistant project manager to ensure that the job is being done to the correct standards and specifications and to ensure that the job is being completed safely and efficiently to be finished on time and under budget.
Â
How did your athletic involvement at RWU help you in the path that you chose following graduation?
My athletic involvement at RWU helped develop me into the person I am today. Being involved with athletics, clubs or whatever it might be helps you realize how important it is to work as a team to accomplish the goals you, your teammates, and your coaches set out; which is exactly the type of mindset you will need when you graduate and move on into your career path. It helped me adapt easily to my career choice. All of the projects I work on don't rely on just one person; it takes the team to accomplish what needs to get done.
Â
What would you say were your greatest athletic and academic accomplishments during your time at RWU?
I'd say my greatest accomplishments while being at Roger Williams would be graduating with the degree that I love, being a part of such an amazing athletic program, seeing the RWU Swimming & Diving team grow, and being a part of the team during our very first NEISDA Championship. It was great to see all of our hard work pay off, and finally being able to lead RWU Swimming & Diving as a captain alongside Ryne Wallace, Hailey Martel, and Rachel Emmons.
Â
Why did you choose to attend RWU?
I decided to attend RWU as soon as I stepped on campus for a tour. Being at the school felt like my second home and is everything anyone could ever ask for. RWU was also close enough for my parents so if we wanted to see each other we could make a day trip out of it.
Â
What is your most fond memory of RWU Athletics?
When I arrived at RWU my freshman year, Coach
Matt Emmert had his visions and his plans for the program: to re-develop and make both Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving a NEISDA-winning powerhouse while constantly looking for the next level of competition whether it be ECAC's or NCAA's. My fondest memory was being able to see Coach Emmert's vision come true while meeting my best friends both inside and outside of the pool while constantly pushing myself to be the best I can possibly be every day.
Â
Were you involved in any extracurricular activities outside of athletics?
Yes, I was also part of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the Title IX Committee Board, and the American Society of Civil Engineers Student Board.
Â
What piece of advice would you have for current RWU student-athletes?
Keep pushing yourself to be better, even if it is only 1% every single day. Make sure you manage your time well between athletics and academics. You are a Student first, then an Athlete.
