Women’s Lacrosse Gets 7 All-CCC Players and 3 Major Awards

BIDDEFORD, Maine – With the release of the 2021 All-Commonwealth Coast Conference Team, the Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse team placed seven members on the all-conference team, with three earning major awards.
 
Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) was named CCC Rookie of the Year, while Isabella Blessington (Harpswell, Maine) was named CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In addition, Head Coach Jen Fox Sargent earned CCC Coach of the Year honors for the third time in her Hawk tenure.
 
Cavanaugh was also selected to the All-CCC First Team. Joining her on the first team are Lauren Flahive (Foxborough, Mass.), Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine), Madi Drain (Waterboro, Maine), and Kate Shultz (Portsmouth, N.H.). Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) was named to the All-CCC Second Team, while Brooke McErlain (Hampton, N.H.) earned All-CCC Third Team recognition.
 
Cavanaugh had an impressive first year for the Hawks, finishing second on the team with 21 points in CCC games. She was talented at both putting the ball into the net and serving up scores for her teammates as she registered 11 goals and 10 assists for 21 points. Her 10 helpers led the team. In addition to her scoring numbers, Cavanaugh also had 11 draw controls during the CCC season.
 
Blessington, a mechanical engineering major with a 3.4 GPA has compiled an impressive list of academic accomplishments. She was the recipient of the Presidential Scholarship for four years and earned the Hawks Award in all four years as well. She is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and was nominated for the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS). She was named to the Dean's List in 2020 and was nominated and presented at the Student Academic Showcase Honors in 2021.
 
Fox Sargent was named CCC Coach of the Year for the third season in a row. She led the Hawks to an undefeated 5-0 conference regular-season record and earned the top seed in the CCC tournament. The Hawks not only won games, but did so in convincing fashion averaging 21.20 goals per game, while allowing just under four per contest. Fox Sargent's defense was especially strong as it caused a league-best 60 caused turnovers during the CCC season.
 
Flahive has been a dominant force for RWU all season, as she leads the team in goals (20), points (27), draw controls (27), and free position goals (12). In addition, her eight caused turnovers ties her for third on the team. She was also selected CCC Player of the Week for her dominant performance in the CCC Championship Game, tallying five goals, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

Sarazin currently stands fourth on the team with 11 goals scored and 16 points. Her five assists tie her for fourth on the Hawks as well. Defensively, Sarazin has also totaled 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. She has scored at least one goal in each game this season including a season-best three in a 24-1 win over Wentworth on April 15.
 
Drain has been another steadying defensive presence for Roger Williams all season long. She is tied for third on the team with 14 draw controls and eight caused turnovers. She has helped the team hold opponents to a 4.83 goals per game average, best in the conference. In the championship game, she forced a season-high four caused turnovers.
 
Shultz has been another strong defender for Roger Williams this season. In her first year as a Hawk, she currently leads the team and ranks second in the conference with 13 caused turnovers. She has also added 14 ground balls and one draw control. She helped RWU to the conference championship with three caused turnovers and two ground balls in the title game.
 
Cunningham has been one of the top all-around players for Roger Williams all season long, as she ranks second on the team with 19 goals and 22 assists. She also ranks second on the team with 21 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. Her play in the CCC Championship Game earned her CCC Rookie of the Week honors with four caused turnovers and a career-high five goals.
 
McErlain has served as one of RWU's starting defenders and her play has been strong throughout the season. She is tied for third on the team with 12 ground balls, while her six caused turnovers tie her for fourth on the squad. Her best game of the year came in the 21-2 season opening win against Curry, where she had a goal, an assist, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers.
