BRISTOL, R.I. – On a Senior Day Saturday afternoon, the Roger Williams University Men's Swimming & Diving team claimed first place in every event swam on their way to a 262-52 beatdown of Eastern Connecticut State University in their final meet before championship race season.
Matt DelGrego (Rochester, N.Y.),
Andy Paul (Sunderland, Mass.),
Kirk Schultz (Cos Cob, Conn.), and
Riley Williams (Arvada, Colo.) led the way with two individual top finishes each and were four of the 11 different Hawks to claim a first-place finish.
Prior to the meet, the Hawks honored the six senior members of the 2021-22 squad: Paul, Schultz,
Timur Couture (Broad Brook, Conn.),
Jeff Lyman (North Providence, R.I.),
Dalton Sousa (Carver, Mass.), and
Emmett Stottlemeyer (Durango, Colo.). But as it turned out, the Hawks were only getting the party started as they dominated the podium by sweeping the top-three spots in 11 of the 14 races.
DelGrego took the top spot for RWU with wins in both the 50- and 100-Yard Backstroke while Paul matched his effort in the Breaststroke races. Both individuals also tacked on a runner-up relay finish in the 400 Medley Relay alongside Couture and
Ryan Duryea (Sag Harbor, N.Y.). Schultz, meanwhile, had a very strong Senior Day with wins in the 200 and 500 Free while Williams continued his outstanding season with wins in the 100-Yard Butterfly and the 400 IM.
Four other Hawks claimed individual wins on the afternoon and that started with
Alvin Gay (Bridgeport, Conn.) who set the tone by winning the first individual race of the meet, the 1000-Yard Freestyle. After Schultz, DelGrego, Paul, and Williams each grabbed their first wins on the day,
Blake Anderson (Seekonk, Mass.) got in on the action with a win in the 50 Free followed by
Bodie Ibrahim (Sunnyside, N.Y.) taking the top spot in the 100 Free.
Seth Sutton (Dunfries, Va.) would later take first in the 100-Yard Butterfly for Roger Williams.
RWU also dominated the relays as their teams took the top-two spots in the 400 Medley Relay with the group consisting of Lyman, Williams, Sutton, and Anderson teaming up to take first. The hosts would also sweep the top-three spots in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with Ibrahim, Duryea, Anderson, and
Vince Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y.) finishing as the top team.
