Men’s Swimming & Diving Wins Fifth Consecutive NEISDA Crown

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Swimming & Diving team won their fifth straight NEISDA Crown at the NEISDA Championships hosted by the University of Rhode Island over the weekend. Seth Sutton (Dunfries, Va.) stole the show with eight combined first-place finishes, setting both the program and meet record in the 100 IM.

RWU took the top spot with a team score of 1197 beating out Norwich University with 798 points. The Hawks earned All-NEISDA honors 78 times across the 23 swimming events and took first in 21 of those, including all four relays.

Sutton led eight different Hawks win an individual championship, he took first on his own in the 50 and 100 Fly, plus the 100 and 200 IM races. Also winning multiple races were Blake Anderson (Seekonk, Mass.) and Matt DelGrego (Rochester, N.Y.). Anderson took the top spot in the 50 and 100 Free, setting the program record in the latter event. Meanwhile DelGrego won the Backstroke races of the same distances.

Also claiming wins for RWU was Kirk Schultz (Cos Cob, Conn.) in the 500 Free, Andy Paul (Sunderland, Mass.) in the 50-Yard Breaststroke, Bodie Ibrahim (Sunnyside, N.Y.) in the 200 Free, Ray Cerro (Southborough, Mass.) in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, and Riley Williams (Arvada, Colo.) in the 50-Yard Breaststroke.

RWU set a pair of program records in the 200 and 400 Free Relay. The 200-Yard team was made up of Anderson, Sutton, Ibrahim, and Ryan Duryea (Sag Harbor, N.Y.). Meanwhile, the 400 relay team was comprised of Anderson, Williams, Ibrahim, and Vince Tarolli (Syracuse, N.Y.). RWU also took the top spot in the 800 Free Relay with Ibrahim, Schultz, Sutton, and Williams.

The Hawks also swept the medley relays, winning both the 200 and the 400 events. Paul, Sutton, Ibrahim, and Jeff Lyman (North Providence, R.I.) made up the 400-Yard team. The 200-Yard Medley Relay squad, meanwhile, was comprised of DelGrego, Williams, Sutton, and Anderson.
