Five Program-Best Marks Fall As Women’s Swimming & Diving Tops GNAC Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. – In a record-setting weekend, the Roger Williams University Women's Swimming & Diving team broke five program records and seven meet records on their way to a banner as they won the GNAC Championship, ending on Sunday at the Boston Sports Institute. The Hawks competed as an associate member at the event, and they dominated, holding the lead from wire to wire and taking first place in 19 of the 20 races swam throughout the weekend.

RWU finished with a team score of 1,247 at the end of the championship, nearly doubling up second place Simmons who finished with 654 points. Fellow Commonwealth Coast Conference school and associate member at the GNAC championship, University of New England took third with 650 points.

Of the five program records that fell, Noelle Schneider (Plymouth, Mass.) played a role in four of them. Individually, she broke the program-best marks in all three butterfly events, the 50-Yard, 100-Yard, and 200-Yard. Additionally, she teamed up with Gabby Carr (West Tisbury, Mass.), Ellie Field (Adams, Mass.), and Callie Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) to topple the program record in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay. Meanwhile, Field broke her own program record in the 100-Yard Freestyle while also winning the 50-Yard and 200-Yard Freestyle races.

The Hawks success goes well beyond those two however, as they were two of nine different swimmers to take first in at least one race individually while the team swept the top spots in the relay races.

Field swam as the anchor for all four of the winning relay teams, while Schneider joined her in three of them. In the 200 Medley Relay, Sullivan and Bella Kuzbek (Manitou Springs, Colo.) joined Field and Schneider to take the top spot while Kate Wieler (Bourne, Mass.) and Kaley Youngcourt (Monroe, Conn.) joined those two in the 400 Medley Relay. Finally, the 800-Yard Medley Relay team consisted of Maggie Carroll (Albany, N.Y.), Carr, Wieler, and Field.

Individually, Carrol and Wieler each grabbed two wins each. Carroll topped the 1000-Yard Freestyle and the 400 IM, while Wieler won the 200 IM and the 200-Yard Backstroke. Also grabbing wins were Carr in the 500-Yard Freestyle, Youngcourt in the 100-Yard Breaststroke, Sullivan in the 200-Yard Backstroke, Kuzbek in the 50-Yard Breaststroke, and Brenna Guilmette (Johnston, R.I.) in the 200-Yard Breaststroke.

Roger Williams also swept the podium in three different events, the 1000 Free, the 200 IM, and the 100 Breaststroke.
