BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University sailing team picked up the top spot at the Moody Trophy over the weekend, while they closed out the Atlantic Coast Women's Championships in 11
th place for the weekend.
At the Moody Trophy both of the Hawks boats, finished in the top five of the 16 team field with the Hawks top boat finished with 112 points, 10 points ahead of the second-place finish from Brown.
The Hawks' top Division A team of
Oliver Stokke (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and
Claire Buckley (Bridgewater, Conn.) sailed to 63 points, using a pair of first place finishes, and eight top five finishes. In Division B, Roger Williams saw both boats finish in the top three, with the top boat of
Mathieu Dale (Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands) and
Michaela O'Donnell (Elyria, Ohio) scoring 49 points, finishing atop the standings.
Jack Roman (Newport Beach, Calif.) and
Carter Sheehan (Middletown, R.I.) combined for 56 points in Division B, picking up five race wins in the process.
At the Atlantic Coast Women's Championships hosted by St. Mary's, the Hawks sailed to an 11
th place finish in the regatta, with a total of 347 points in the 17-team field. In Division A
Katie McGagh (League City, Texas) and
Maren Matthews (Harbor Springs, Mich.) earned 219 points.
Lucy Meagher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Maggie Fleming added 128 points in Division B, finishing seventh.
At the Smith Trophy, the top boat for Roger Williams finished in fourth with the place with
Will Bailey (Chatham, Mass.) and
Frankie Sparrow earning 66 points for the Hawks' in Division A. The Division B boat of
Ethan Burt (Hingham, Mass.) and
Peter Cotoia (South Yarmouth, Mass.) added 52 points, finishing third in the division.
At the Danmark Trophy at Coast Guard, the Hawks placed seventh in the regatta, with a score of 243 points. The top boat at the Yale Fall Invite for Roger Williams was the pairing of
Tavia Smith (Wilmington, N.C.) and
Dominique Spinola (Dartmouth, Mass.), who had 27 points through eight races finishing two off the pace of Fairfield who had 25 for the victory.
Roger Williams will be back in action with three scheduled regattas.
