ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Open Fleet Racing Sailing team earned a spot in the finals of the ICSA Open Fleet Racing National Championship after finishing in fifth place in the Eastern Semifinals. The Hawks last reached the finals in the 2023-24 season, where they finished 11th.
Harvard won the Eastern side of the draw with a score of 52, followed by U.S. Naval Academy (76), Tulane (90), and Boston College (102). The Hawks completed the two-day semifinal with a score of 108.
On the water for RWU in Division A were Carlos Bermudez de Castro and Addy Fisher, while Kyle Pfrang was paired with Jed Lory in Division B.
Pfrang and Lory took three top five finishes over their five races today in Division B. The duo compiled 50 points over their seven total races, with the best finish being second place in their sixth race.
Bermudez de Castro and Fisher saw top 10 finishes in all three races in Division A today to move their score to 58.
Over two semifinal days, the Hawk's A-sailors finished in the top 10 in five of seven races. RWU's B-Division duo registered four top 10 performances. Bermudez de Castro and Fisher took home one first-place finish, while Pfrang and Lory took home a second and third finish.
Roger Williams will return to action on Thursday, May 21 for the first of two days of finals competition at the ICSA Open Fleet Racing National Championship.
