BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's swimming team proved dominant on Saturday at the RWU Invitational at the RWU Aquatics Center. The Hawks finished the meet in first with a score of 593, beating second place Eastern Connecticut State by 416.
Gabby Carr (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) picked up gold medals in the 50 yard freestyle and 200 yard freestyle, with times of 25.76 and 2:02.11 respectively setting season best times. Kate Wieler (Bourne, Mass.) also earned the top spot in the 100 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke for the Hawks, finishing in 56.76 and 1:02.05.
Noelle Schneider (Plymouth, Mass.) also earned a pair of first place finishes in the 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard IM with times of 1:01.00 and 2:20.33. Bella Kuzbek (Manitou Springs, Colo.) continued her season with a first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:11.71, taking first. In the 2000 yard IM, Kuzbek placed second with a time of 2:22.85.
Avery Benigni (Meriden, Conn.) earned two second place finishes individually, as she posted a seasons best 25.86 in the 50 yard freestyle, while finishing in 57.17 in the 100 yard freestyle.
The relay's saw , Wieler, Kuzbek, Schneider, and Benigni earned the top spot in the 200 yard medley relay, with a 1:54.31 finish. The relay also finished first in the 400 yard freestyle relay, with Carr, Schnieder, Wieler, and Maggie Carroll (Albany, N.Y.) earning the top spot with a 3:53.25 in the event.
Roger Williams will return to action on Sunday with a meet at WPI against Ithaca and the Engineers.
