NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Women's Cross Country Team finished the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional in 13
th, the best finish for a regional in program history, at Connecticut College.
Williams took the top spot at regionals, after coming in with the top ranking in the region, with 59 points, while seventh-ranked RPI and second-ranked Amherst tied with 110 points for second. Vassar and Middlebury rounded out the top five with 111 and 112 points respectively. The Hawks compiled 401 points in the race, placing 13
th, edging out Westfield State by one point.
As a team, the Hawks averaged a top-five time of 23:47, with the top five runners finishing in 1:58:59
Brittany Martin (Potsdam, N.Y.) took the top spot for the Hawks as she ran the 6K in 23:04.04. Martin opened the first 2.6k with a 9:17.2 time, before finishing the final 1.2k in 4:50.4.
Caitlin Boufford (Londonderry, N.H.) then finished in second for the Hawks and 73
rd overall, with a 23:33.2 time.
Katie Flaherty (West Hartford, Conn.) placed three spots behind Boufford, completing her race with a time of 23:35.7, finishing five seconds behind her personal best for a 6k course in her collegiate career.
Olivia O'Neill (Westwood, Mass.) set a new PR for a 6K with a 24:02.9 race time. Finishing the final 1.2K with a time of 4:45.4.
Rounding out the Hawks' top five was
Tabitha DiDonato (Cherry Hill, N.J.), who compiled a time of 24:43.5 throughout the course, placing 108th.
Grace Baldwin (Braintree, Mass.) and
Carolyn Narahara (Reading, Mass.) rounded out the group, finishing with times of 25:09.6 and 25:28.7, respectively.
The Hawks' season comes to a close after they posted their best finish at the conference championship since 2019 and their best regional finish ever.
