BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University Head Men's and Women's Swimming Coach Matt Emmert is set to be inducted into the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 4 at the Quonset 'O' Club in North Kingstown, R.I.
Emmert, who took the helm of the Hawks swimming programs in 2012, has coached 170 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) participants, with 58 Eastern Collegiate Association Championship (ECAC) qualifiers.
Most recently Emmert sent Riley Williams to the NCAA Championships during the 2022-23 season, Williams' second appearance, and third appearance by a Roger Williams swimmer. Emmert has also been Named NEISDA Coach of the year 8 times, as well as 2022 GNAC Men's Coach of the year.
The Hawks have seen success at NEISDA Championships, with 50 NEISDA Individual Champions, and have won four team championships along the men's side and three on the women's.
Academically, Emmert have coached teams to Scholar All-American Team status a total of 28 times by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), twenty-four for the women's swimming team and four on the men's side.
Emmert also serves as the Performance Director for Kingfish Swimming Rhode Island a program which has produced numerous Rhode Island State Champions and record holders, as well as co-founded the Kingfish RI Swim Academy,which provides swim lessons and water safety to local youth in Newport, Bristol, & Smithfield.
Prior to joining the Hawks, Emmert had coached at Texas Christian University, University of Maryland, as well his Alma Mater, the University of Rhode Island, where he graduated after his swimming career in 2004. He has also served as a coach at North Kingstown High School.
