BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team saw three members of the squad receive recognition in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Preseason Individual Rankings.
At 141 pounds, Shaun McLaughlin (Natick, Mass.) sits eighth after posting a 2024-25 record of 24-17 in contested matches on the season. McLaughlin was an All-Region Honoree after posting a 3-3 record at the NCAA Division III Regional Championship, earning an eighth-place finish at 133 pounds last season.
At 165 pounds, Gordon Murray (Porter Corners, N.Y.) also sits eighth in the NEWA rankings, posting a 2025-26 record of 14-20, ranking eighth in the region, after a 1-2 record at the NCAA Division III Regional Championships.
At 285 pounds, Jayden Toppan (Gloucester, Mass.) was ranked eighth after posting a first-year campaign of 29-11, including a win via pin at the NCAA Regional Championship. Toppan surpassed 25 wins in contested matches, with four wins counting via forfeit.
The Hawks were placed 14th in the NEWA Team Tournament rankings after losing key pieces. The Hawks tallied nine total points, with Coast Guard and Vermont State University – Castleton sitting in the top two spots. Last year's national champion in Johnson & Wales sits fourth heading into the season.
