Sailing: Hawks Place Sixth at Schell Trophy, Eighth at Urn to Round out Fall NEISA Championships

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team finished the weekend with a sixth-place finish at the Professor Erwin Schell Trophy while placing eighth at the Victorian Urn Trophy to round out their New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Championship slate this fall.

The Hawks placed sixth at the Schell Trophy, compiling 201 points, tied with Dartmouth, while Harvard and Yale finished first and second with 127 and 128 points, respectively. Brown rounded out the top three with 172 points.  

RWU placed third in Division A with Carlos Bermudez de Castro (La Coruña, Spain) sailing with Jed Lory (Severna Park, Md.), Addy Fisher (Charleston, S.C.) serving as crews. The Hawks' boat earned two first-place finishes in races 12 and 14. The Hawks had six races finishing inside the top five overall. Kyle Pfrang (Suffolk, Va.) and Carter Sheehan (Middletown, R.I.) tallied 125 points in Division B, finishing eighth overall.

At the Urn Trophy, the Hawks tallied 184 total points to finish eighth in the field while Brown took home the conference title with 107. Division A saw Lucy Meagher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Maren Matthews (Harbor Springs, Mich.) combine for a 10th-place finish with 93 points, falling in the tiebreaker to Yale. In Division B, Tavia Smith (Wilmington, N.C.) combined with Sophie Litos (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Mackenzie Speece (Shelter Island, N.Y.) for 91 points on their way to an eighth-place finish.

The Hawks also competed at the Nickerson Trophy at Tufts, finishing fourth with 133 points total, while earning 66 points in Division A and 67 points in Division B. The Hawks' Division A boat placed fourth with Parker Moore (Hampton, Va.) and Maddy Martin (Indianapolis, Ind.) combining for the team, while Division B saw Bo Angus (Richmond, Va.) and Didier Schouten (Eze, France) sail for RWU.

At the Terrier Invite, the Hawks had 56 points with 26 coming from Division A's Ludwik Grzelak (Warsaw, Poland) and Panni Missura (Budapest, Hungary), who each had 26 points, while Division B saw RWU's Jakub Fuja (Glenview, Ill.) and Dominique Spinola (Dartmouth, Mass.) finish in fifth with 30 total points.
