ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Match Racing Sailing team finished seventh at the Cornelius Shields, Sr. Trophy for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) National Championship, hosted by St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
The Hawks led by skipper Carlos Bermudez de Castro (La Coruña, Spain) finished in seventh with three head-to-head wins in the team's seven races (43%). Harvard took home the national title with seven wins, defeating each of the teams it faced. The College of Charleston finished second with five wins, while Tulane, Georgetown, Brown, and Boston College each had four wins, knotting for third.
Alongside Drew Mastovsky (Marion, Mass.), Tristan McDonald (Lake Forest, Ill.), and Addy Fisher (Charleston, S.C.), the Hawks opened their regatta with a win over Stamford. In their second race, the Hawks fell to Harvard but were unable to recover in their third race against Brown.
Sitting at 1-2 for the championship, the Hawks leveled their record at 2-2 with a win over Charleston, but fell in the fifth flight of races to Georgetown. The Hawks again rebounded to sit at 3-3 through six races with a win over Tulane, before falling to Navy in their final race before the regatta was called.
The Hawks conclude their fall season, with the Spring slate to be announced at a later date.
