BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Cross Country team collected three major awards after the Conference of New England (CNE) Championship over the weekend, with Nathan Tassey (Whitman, Mass.) highlighting the group with his fourth consecutive CNE Runner of the Year honor.
The Hawks collected a trio of major award winners while also seeing a league-high five runners named to All-Conference teams.
Highlighting the honors was Tassey, as the senior completed the collegiate grand slam, finishing with four straight CNE Runner of the Year honors as he closed his CNE Championship run, placing first each time. Tassey averaged a 5:05.9 mile, finishing the 8K course in 25:20.6. Tassey led the pack by 27.5 seconds heading into the finish as he completed the sweep of the award, while also securing First Team honors.
Also highlighted in major awards was first-year Cole Walker (Cumberland, R.I.), who was named the CNE's Rookie of the Year after his performance at the CNE Championships. Walker was the eighth RWU runner to cross the line, but was able to beat out Gavin Mize of Hartford by four seconds to secure the top finish by a first-year student-athlete in the meet. Walker finished in 26:51.4.
Rounding out major award honors was Head Coach Sean Livingston, who was named the league's Coach of the Year for the 13th time on the Men's Cross Country side, after leading the Hawks to a dominant win by 34 total points.
Joining Tassey on the All-Conference First Team was Nathan Evans (Lincoln, R.I.), who placed second in the league, running to a 25:48.1 time, averaging 5:11.4 per mile. Landing a spot on the All-Conference Second Team was Justin Dickson (Londonderry, N.H.), who finished seventh with a 26:13.4 time while setting a personal best.
On the third team was Colin Czuchra (Oxford, Conn.), who finished his race in 26:24.9, placing 11th and earning a personal best while averaging a mile time of 5:18.8. Joining Czuchra was Harrison Krause (Glastonbury, Conn.), who placed third to earn All-Conference honors with a time of 26:26.8, with a mile time of 5:21.2.
In addition, Kyle Tarpy (Haverhill, Mass.) was named to the league's Community Service Team.
The Hawks are turning their attention from the CNE Championship to the Mideast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 15 in Canton, N.Y.
