CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Track & Field team closed out their opening weekend of competition on Saturday at the Gordon Kelly Invitational, hosted by MIT.
In the women's shotput, first-year student-athlete,
Hailey Garcia set an indoor school record, throwing for 11.69m on her opening throw of the event, qualifying for the New England DIII Indoor Championships. Garcia is the first female shotput thrower to qualify for a Regional Championship in program history.
In the women's 3000m
Brittany Martin set the pace for the Hawks finishing fourth with a time of 11:16.35, while
Natalie Forno finished sixth with a personal best, 11:31.98.
In the women's 600 m,
Tabitha DiDonato finished the race at the top of the pack with a time of 1:46.36, while
Addie Cook finished two spots behind in 1:50.98.
Karsyn Medeiros set a personal best in the women's 400m with a time of 1:05.61, finishing 0.35 ahead of
Angela West who placed sixth in the event.
In the women's 200m Medeiros again lead Roger Williams finishing in 29.49, but
Olivia O'Neill and
Amanda Walsh finished right behind with times of 29.62 and 29.66 respectively. In the Women's 60m preliminaries, Walsh set a personal best time of 8.61, while
Natalie Reid and
Mya D'Antonio posted times of 8.85 and o9.10 respectively.
In the high jump
Alexandra Biryukov placed eighth finishing with a jump of 1.51m, while
Natalie Reid completed the long jump with a distance of 4.66m.
Roger Williams will return to competition on Saturday, Feb. 22 when they travel to Providence for the Brown Invitational, the Hawks will then prepare to see members of the squad participate in the New England DIII Indoor Championship at The TRACK at New Balance.
