MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Roger Williams University men's track and field team delivered standout performances at the Swanson Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday, with multiple Hawks securing top finishes across various events.
Senior Sam Bielawa led the way with victories in both the long jump (6.80m, 22' 3.75") and triple jump (13.98m, 45' 10.5"), punching a ticket to the Outdoor New England Championships. Ronald Nolin also impressed, clearing 1.75m (5' 8.75") to place fifth in the high jump.
In the sprints, senior Jack Bielawa finished seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 51.79, while Joseph Mallozzi led the Hawks in the 200 meters, placing 33rd in 23.66 seconds.
In the distance events, Nathan Evans secured a pair of top-five finishes, placing fifth in the 1500 meters (4:12.00) and fifth in the 3000 meters (8:58.90), setting an outdoor program record. Colin Czuchra followed with a 14th-place finish in the 3000 meters (9:22.12).
On the track, Aleck Isbester clocked in at 15.83 to take fourth place in the 110 hurdles. The 4x400-meter relay team of Justin Dickson, Jack Bielawa, Burke Mattey, and Nathan Labossiere secured second place in 3:34.08.
In the throws, Napoleon Suderman delivered a third-place finish in the discus (45.31m, 148' 8") pushing the school record from 44.95m, while Enrique Maldonado placed fifth in the hammer throw (44.53m, 146' 1"), and eighth in the discus (39.73m, 130' 4").
Roger Williams will look to continue its momentum at the Corsair Classic on Saturday, Mar. 29 at UMass Dartmouth. The Hawks will then take part in the Ocean State Cup on Friday, Apr. 4, and Saturday, Apr. 5.
