PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team placed third at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Open Team Race National Championships on Saturday, closing out a strong week of sailing.
The Hawks, last year's national champion, posted a 18-7 record through three days of sailing, with Harvard taking home the National title, going 20-5, and Yale finishing second with a 19-6 record on the week. The team of skippers

Roger Williams opened the day with a 1-2-3 finish over Boston College before going 1-2-6 against Charleston in their race. The Hawks, beating Georgetown, remained unbeaten after their third race by a similar score.
Against Bowdoin, the Hawks went 1-2-5, and then took the top three spots over St. Mary's College of Maryland. Sailing against Yale, the Hawks went 2-3-4, edging out the Bulldogs despite Yale securing the first boat to cross the finish.
A top sweep of Coast Guard put the Hawks at a perfect 7-0 record, and then they moved to 8-0 with a sweep of Michigan. Tulane was the first tea to hand Roger Williams a loss on the day, with a 1-2-4 defeat of the Hawks ahead of Harvard, which defeated the Hawks with a 1-3-4 finish to take the tiebreaker.
The Hawks after day two the Hawks held a 13-5 record, and a 1-2 record in the final eight-round robin. Picking up against Navy, the Hawks took a 1-2-3 finish, before Brown edged out the Hawks in a 1-3-4 victory.
The Hawks then beat Stanford (2-3-4) and Dartmouth (1-2-6) before rounding out the round of 16 with a 1-3-6 victory over Tufts.
Entering the round of eight, Roger Williams picked up a win over Tulane (1-2-4), but fell to Brown and Yale, by 1-2-5 winning scores.
On Saturday, the Hawks continued to work through the Round of 8, picking up the win over Boston College (2-3-4) before winning with a 1-2-3 finish over Stanford. The Hawks then added a 2-3-4 win over Dartmouth, before dropping their final sail of the round robin to Harvard, with the Crimson finishing 1-2-3.
In the final four, the Hawks dropped their first race to Yale (1-2-4) but rebounded for a win over the Crimson, finishing with a 1-2-3 placement. The Hawks then rounded out the final four with a 1-2-3 win over Stanford.
