WORCESTER, Mass. — The Roger Williams University Men's Swimming team wrapped up competition at day two of the Menck Invitational on Saturday at WPI with several strong individual and relay performances against WPI and Amherst.
The Hawks opened the meet in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the squad of James Augustin (Massapequa, N.Y.), Olle Lundgren (Boston, Mass.), Dylan Gourlay (Mount Kisco, N.Y.), and James Guilmette (Johnston,R.I.) lead the Hawks and took fourth with a time of 1:26.86.
For breaststroke events, Cam Hogg (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a second-place finish with a time of 12.79, while Augustin took third in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 26.90. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Hogg returned to the pool and took second for the Hawks with a time of 58.76.
In the 25-yard butterfly, Lundgren was back in the pool for the Hawks and took second place with a time of 10.81. Augustin returned for the 50-yard butterfly and took fourth with a time of 23.34.
Continuing the butterfly events, Matthew Fries (Plymouth, Mass.) took sixth in the 200-yard butterfly and led the Hawks with a time of 2:04.21. Drew Hebert (Melrose, Mass.) posted a third-place finish for Roger Williams in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.52.
Turning to backstroke events, Carter Brown (Lake Ridge, Va.) took second for the Hawks, finishing in 12.25. Thomas Brown (Katonah, N.Y.) picked up a second-place finish for the Hawks in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 24.97. Thomas Brown was back in the pool for the Hawks in the 100-yard Backstroke and took third with a time of 52.51.
Thomas Brown continued his strong performance with a second place finished in the 25-yard freestyle with a time of 10.25. Guilmette swam again for the Hawks in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a seventh-place finish with a time of 22.22. Evan Wysor (North Kingstown, R.I.) paced Roger Williams in the 100-yard freestyle, earning the top RWU finish with a third-place time of 48.35.
In the 200-yard freestyle, the Hawks' top finisher was Connor Poetsch (Randolph, N.J.) coming in seventh with a time of 1:50.88. Ryan Iannone (Prospect, Conn.) led RWU in the 500-yard freestyle, placing eighth overall with a time of 5:05.04.
Augustin continued his strong day in the 100-yard individual medley, taking third with a time of 54.30. Augustin also recorded the Hawks' top finish in the 200-yard individual medley, capturing second place with a time of 2:00.20.
In the 400-yard individual medley, Wysor took fourth for the Hawks and finished in 4:15.84.
Rounding out the meet for the Hawks, the quartet of Thomas Brown, Luke Austin (Essex Junction, Vt.), Gourlay, and Augustin led RWU and took fifth in the 200-yard medley relay.
The Hawks will turn their focus to the end of the month, where on Saturday, Jan. 31 they will head to Coast Guard to compete against the Bears and Montclair State.
