BRISTOL, R.I. - Roger Williams University's (RWU) Men's Swimming team dropped a pair of dual decisions Saturday in a tri-meet with Coast Guard and Montclair State, falling 180–88 to Coast Guard and 192–86 to Montclair State.
Despite the team scores, RWU produced several strong individual swims, highlighted by a victory from first-year James Augustin (Massapequa, N.Y.) in the 50-yard freestyle. Augustin touched first in 21.86 seconds, edging a tightly packed field and providing the Hawks with their lone event win of the afternoon. He later added a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 54.98.
Distance events also proved productive for RWU. Alex Weisenbacher (Beacon Falls, Conn.) delivered a season-best effort in the 1,000 freestyle, placing fifth overall in 10:30.61, and followed with a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle at 5:06.69. Teammate Evan Wysor (North Kingstown, R.I.) contributed a fifth-place swim in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.51.
In stroke events, Luke Austin (Essex Junction, Vt.) turned in one of the Hawks' top finishes of the day, placing third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.81. Cam Hogg (Bridgewater, Mass.) added points in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:02.25 swim, while Drew Hebert (Melrose, Mass.) clocked 2:03.45 in the 200 butterfly. On the backstroke side, Thomas Brown (Katonah, N.Y.) (56.29) and Carter Brown (Lake Ridge, Va.) (2:04.00) led RWU in the 100 and 200 distances, respectively.
The Hawks also showed depth in sprint freestyle events. James Guilmette (Johnston, R.I.) recorded a 50.26 in the 100 freestyle, and multiple RWU swimmers scored in the 200 freestyle to keep races competitive throughout the meet.
Roger Williams closed the meet with solid relay efforts, including times of 1:41.01 and 1:41.20 from its 200 medley relay squads, as the team continued building momentum heading toward the championship portion of the season.
The Hawks will return to action beginning on Thursday, Feb. 12 through, Sunday, Feb. 15 at the NJAC Championships in Hampton, Va.
