HAMPTON, Va. – The Roger Williams University Men's Swimming Team set up their New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship run after competing in a pair of relays on Thursday evening, seeing a school record fall.
After the opening day of competition, the Hawks sit sixth overall in the field with 98 total points.
In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the Hawks finished in 1:32.41, with The College of New Jersey finishing in 1:26.82, placing first. The Hawks saw Carter Brown (Lake Ridge, Va.) finish in 24.10 in the opening backstroke split, while Cam Hogg (Bridgewater, Mass.) finished the breaststroke in 25.87. Drew Hebert (Melrose, Mass.) swam the Butterfly in 22.47, ahead of James Augustin (Massapequa, N.Y.), anchoring the relay with a 50 Freestyle of 19.97, finishing in 1:32.41 as a team.
The Hawks then saw a school record fall by just over three seconds in the 800 freestyle. Thomas Brown (Katonah, N.Y.) opened the swim with a 1:44.04 over the first 200, followed by Evan Wysor (North Kingstown, R.I.), who completed his split in 1:42.39. The final half of the event saw Dylan Gourlay (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) swim his 200 split in 1:41.97, ahead of Augustin swimming the final 200 in 1:41.17, setting the new school record at 6:49.57.
Roger Williams will continue competition in the pool on Friday, Feb. 13 at the NJAC Championships.
