NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Men's Track and Field team delivered a strong showing at the Silfen Invitational, highlighted by a facility record perforamnce strong showing in the decathlon across two days of competition at Connecticut College.
The Hawks saw Nathan Tassey (Whitman, Mass.) capture the 10,000-meter elite title, crossing the line in a facility-record time of 29:34.42.
Roger Williams also claimed the top spot in the decathlon Justin Dickson (Londonderry, N.H.) as he won the decathlon with 5,875 points to finish first overall in the 10-event competition.
Dickson took the top spot in both the 1500 meters in 4:23.66 and the discus with a throw of 38.05 meters among the decathlon field. He also finished second in the 400 meters and recorded multiple top-three finishes across the two-day competition to secure the overall title.
In the sprint events, Jack Bates (Keene, N.H.) placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.93 seconds, while Dylan Gladstone (Fairfield, Conn.) and Jacob Ward (Bristol, R.I.) added additional top-25 finishes..
Napoleon Suderman (Winchester, Mass.) recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes in the discus with a mark of 43.34 meters and the hammer throw at 45.46 meters. Enrique Maldonado (Taunton, Mass.) contributed with a seventh-place finish in the hammer at 44.15 meters and an eighth-place mark in the discus at 39.22 meters, giving the Hawks multiple top-eight finishes in both events.
On the track, Joshua Soucy (Manchester, N.H.) led the middle-distance group with a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters in 2:05.51.
In the 5,000 meters, Gabriel Huff (Ledyard, Conn.) placed 11th in 16:45.73. He was followed by Colin Marsanico (Floral Park, N.Y.), who finished 19th, and Colby Winn (North Andover, Mass.).
Roger Williams will continue their season on Saturday, Apr. 18 at the Sean Collier Invitational, in their final tune up for the Conference of New England (CNE) Championships on Friday, Apr. 24 and Saturday, Apr. 25.
