BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team took the top two at the Priddy Fleet Race at URI, while placing third at the Alymers Team Race hosted by Bentley. The Hawks took seventh place at both the NEISA Women's Team Race Championship – Legler Trophy held at Tufts and the Thompson Trophy hosted by Coast Guard.
The Hawks sent two teams to the Priddy Fleet Race at URI this weekend, where they placed first and second out of 12 total teams. The first Hawks team finished first with a total of 13 points after collecting three first place finishes and two second place finishes. The second Hawks team finished second with 14 points after securing two first place finishes and three second place finishes.
At the Alymers Team Race, RWU placed third overall with a record of 6-3. The skippers for the Hawks were Carl Furhoff (Borensberg, Sweden), Max Hanson (Seattle, Wash.), and Gavin Morris (Annapolis, Md.), while the crews were Panni Missura (Budapest, Hungary), Demetry Spinola (Dartmouth, Mass.), and Emily Gaillard (Antigua and Barbuda).
The Hawks went 6-2 in round one, falling only to Brown and Boston University. In round two, Roger Williams well to Boston University again, going 0-1.
For the NEISA Women's Team Race Championship (Legler Trophy), RWU placed seventh with a 7-9 overall record. In round one, the Hawks went 5-4 dropping to Bowdoin, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Tufts. In round two, RWU went 2-5 beating Bowdoin and MIT.
The skippers for the Hawks were Maren Matthews (Harbor Springs, Mich.), Lucy Meagher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), and Tavia Smith (Wilmington, N.C.). The crews were Elyssa Franklin (St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands), Katie McGagh (League City, Texas), Maggie Fleming (San Diego, Calif.), and Mackenzie Speece (Shelter Island, N.Y.).
Wrapping up the weekend at the Thompson Trophy, Roger Williams placed seventh overall going 8-7. The Hawks sent skippers Oliver Stokke (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Tristan McDonald (Lake Forest, Ill.), Drew Mastovksy (Marion, Mass.), and Bo Angus (Richmond, Va.). The crews were Dawson Chambers-Tartaglino (Somers, Mont.), Didier Schouten (Eze, France), Dom Spinola (Dartmouth, Mass.), and Maddy Martin (Indianapolis, Ind.).
RWU went 8-7 in round one, beating Charleston, Tulane, Dartmouth, Yale, URI, Navy, Tufts, and Connecticut College.
Roger Williams will be back in action April 18-19 at the Women's New England Fleet Race Championship, the Boston Dinghy Cup Fleet Race, the Open New England Fleet Race Championship, and the Morris Fleet Race.
