CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Roger Williams University men's track & field team turned in a competitive showing against a deep field at the Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT on April 17–18.
Roger Williams saw a top-10 finish from Gabriel Huff, who placed ninth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:30.75, setting a new personal best in the event.
Oliver Polster led RWU in the 800 meters, finishing 20th overall in 2:00.88, while Joshua Soucy followed in 2:03.58, setting a new personal record.
The Hawks also showed depth in the 1500 meters, with Colin Czuchra pacing the squad in 4:18.16. Close behind were Tate Midora (4:20.78) and Eli Labell (4:23.52), with both runners setting a new personal record..
On the sprint side, Justin Rowe turned in one of the team's top finishes of the weekend, placing 13th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.03, a personal best, followed closely by Jack Bates (23.18).
The 4x100 relay team of William Hight, William Volpe, Constantine Georgopoulos, and Jayden Rinaldni delivered a strong effort, finishing sixth overall in 43.92 against a competitive field.
In the hurdles, Maciej Tabak led RWU with a 20th-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (17.18), while Shane Hughes followed in 17.32. Hughes also competed in the 400 hurdles, posting a time of 1:03.31.
Field events saw Ronald Nolin emerge as a standout, tying for fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.88 meters, earning DIII New England qualifying recognition. The throws group for the Hawks also showed some strong performances, as Jordan Kellis finished with a throw of 52.14m in the Javelin, and Napoleon Suderman and Enrique Maldonado finished with throws of 43.08m and 42.28m, respectively, in the discus. Suderman also had a throw of 47.10m in the hammer throw.
