WENHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Track & Field team is set for the Conference of New England (CNE) Championship on Friday, Apr. 24 and Saturday, Apr. 25. The CNE Championship will be held at Gordon College, but hosted by Suffolk University and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
The Hawks placed fifth last year and are looking to build off of strong performances this year.
RWU currently has one student-athlete ranked inside the top 50 national, as Angela West currently sits 14th in the javelin.
On Friday, the Hawks will open with the pole vault set to begin at 2:00pm. Hanna Tomany will lead the Hawks in the pole vault with a 2.55m. The javelin, high jump, and hammer throw will begin simultaneously on Friday. West will lead the Hawks in the javelin with a 41.75m throw, while Morgan Ippolito holds a 33.10m mark. Kaylee Jackson and Tomany will be the top seeds for RWU in the high jump as each hold a height of 1.43m, with Lindsay Maine holding a 1.42m mark. The hammer throw will see Emma Jackson lead the Hawks with a 31.87m throw.
The long jump will round out day one of competition. In the long jump, Kaylee Jackson will be the top seed for RWU with a mark of 4.97m and followed closely by Natalie Reid with a 4.80m mark.
Opening on Saturday, RWU will start at 10:00 am with the discus and triple jump. Emma Jackson will be back to lead the Hawks in the discus, along with West. In the triple jump, Peyton Sullivan will be the top seed for RWU with a 9.73m mark and followed by Ellie Clayton.
Rounding out the field events on Saturday, will be the shot put. The Jackson sisters will lead the Hawks, with Emma holding the top spot with a 8.26m throw and followed closely by Kaylee with a 8.22m throw.
On the track, the 4x100 relay will begin at 11:00am and will be followed by the 1500-meter. The Hawks will send the team of Amanda Walsh, Kaylee Jackson, Karsyn Medeiros, and Natalie Reid to the 4x100 relay. In the 1500-meter, Olivia O'Neill paces the Hawks with a time of 5:26.38, followed by Grace Baldwin with a time of 5:34.15 and Gabriella Sitzer with a time of 5:34.27.
The 110 hurdles will begin at noon, followed by the 400-meter, 100-meter, 800-meter, 400 hurdles. Sullivan will be on the track for the Hawks for the 110 hurdles, holding a time of 18.97. In the 400-meter, Medeiros will lead RWU with a time of 1:03.26. In the 100-meter, Reid, Walsh, Kaylee Jackson, and Burnett will head to compete for the Hawks.
O'Neill will pace the Hawks in the 800-meter, holding a time of 2:31.83. To round out the morning in the 400 hurdles, Baldwin will head to the track for the Hawks.
Rounding out the day two schedule will be the 200-meter, 5000-meter, and the 4x400 relay. In the 200-meter, the Hawks will send Kaylee Jackson, Reid, Medeiros, and Sullivan to compete. In the 5000-meter, Sitzer will compete holding a top seed time of 20:26.35.
The last event will be the 4x400 relay as the Hawks send Baldwin, Tomany, O'Neill, and Medeiros, the team is the top seed for RWU with a time of 4:21.38.
Competition is set to begin on Friday, Apr. 24 at 2:00 pm.
