WENHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Track & Field team sits sixth after the first day of the Conference of New England (CNE) Track & Field Championship, hosted by Suffolk and Wentworth on Friday, at Gordon College.
The Hawks have 16.50 points, while Hartford leads with 72 points. Gordon sits second with 43, while Johnson & Wales is third with 31.50 points.
In the Steeplechase,
Gabby Sitzer finished sixth with a time of 12:58.44, while Suffolk's Grace Miller finished in the top spot with an 11:19.04 time. The Hawks saw
Hanna Tomany add half a point with a 2.45m vault in the pole vault, finishing tied for eighth, behind Gordon's Josie Hendricks, who tallied a 3.35m jump to take gold.
In the women's long jump, the Hawks saw
Kaylee Jackson place sixth with a jump of 5.05m, finishing 0.55m behind JWU's Aliyah Wilson for the top spot. In the javelin throw,
Angela West had a distance of 35.88m on her opening throw to finish second overall, behind Hartford's Kayla Pelletier.
In the Hammer throw,
Emma Jackson threw for a distance of 30.32m, finishing in 15
th overall, while
Avery Williams and
Madison Stawicki placed 18
th and 19
th, with throws of 28.85m and 27.19m, respectively.
Rounding out day one, the Hawks saw Tomany and
Lindsay Maine finish the high jump with a 1.41m jump.
The Hawks will return to action tomorrow, Apr. 25 for the final day of the CNE Championship.
