ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Women's Fleet Racing Sailing team earned a spot in the finals of the ICSA Women's Fleet Racing National Championship after finishing in fifth place in the Eastern Semifinals. This marks the fourth consecutive time RWU will compete at the National Championship.
Stanford won the Eastern side of the draw with an 81, followed by Harvard with 98, Charleston with 117, and Dartmouth with 121. The Hawks completed the two-day semifinal with a score of 137.
On the water for RWU in Division A were Lucy Meagher paired with Maren Matthews (7-10). Tavia Smith was paired with Mackenzie Speece (7-8) and Addy Fisher (9-10) in Division B.
Meagher and Matthews secured two top 10 places on the day, bringing the Hawks to 67 points in Division A. Smith and Fisher had the top finish of the day as they placed third in their last race of the day. The Hawks had 70 total points in Division B at the conclusion of the second day.
Over two semifinal days, the Hawk's A-sailors finished in the top 10 in eight of 10 races. RWU's B-Division competitors also registered eight top-10 performances. Both teams also secured two first-place finishes.
Roger Williams will return to action on Sunday, May 17 for the first of two days of finals competition.
