Women's Lacrosse extends winning streak to four straight

BRISTOL, R.I.- The women's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to four games Wednesday with a 10-8 road victory over The Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent, New England College. Junior Kasey Beckwith (Franklin, Conn.) and senior Jackie Criss (Westwood, Mass.) both totaled a team-high six points in the win.

New England College nearly doubled the Hawks' tally of ground balls and posted 14 more shots in the contest, but RWU goalkeeper Amanda Magee (Columbus, N.J.) registered nearly twice as many saves as her counterpart to help the Hawks win in the end.

The Pilgrims exploded out of halftime, quickly erasing their 5-2 deficit with four straight goals in the first 1:35 of the second half. Criss contributed one of her six assists at 27:33 to sophomore Claire Halliday (Trenton, N.J.) to stop the bleeding and tie the game at 6-6. Beckwith contributed an assist to senior Libby Stout (Concord, Mass.) and the next two goals to put RWU ahead for good, 9-6, at 16:08.

Halliday tallied her second goal assisted by Criss, sandwiched between two Pilgrim goals, before the game's end.  In the first half sophomore Kate Malenczak (Sayville, N.Y.) also registered two goals with both assists coming from Criss.

Magee ended the game with 20 saves, while Alexandra DiRico posted 12 saves in the loss. Three different Pilgrims tallied two goals in the contest and Amanda Naime picked up a game-high five ground balls to contribute to her team's tally of 35.

RWU improves to  4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the TCCC. New England College falls to 0-4 and 0-2. RWU moves on to face Endicott College, Saturday at 11 a.m., while NEC travels to the University of New England for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
