Women's Lacrosse: Rocheleau and Hayes Earn Major Awards, Seven Hawks Named to All-Conference Teams

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Conference of New England (CNE) announced its postseason awards for the sport of women's lacrosse on Thursday afternoon, with Roger Williams Universtiy student-athletes earning two major awards and seven All-Conference selections.

Leading the way for the Hawks was Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.), who was named the CNE Defensive Player of the Year while also earning All-Conference First Team honors. Rocheleau anchored the Roger Williams defense throughout the season, picking up 36 ground balls and forcing 22 turnovers on the year during the regular season.

Miranda Hayes (South Burlington, Vt.) also took home a major honor, being named the CNE Specialist of the Year, in addition to earning a spot on the All-Conference First Team. Hayes made a significant impact in all facets of the game, excelling in draw controls, leading the conference with 143, paired with 52 points. 

Joining Rocheleau and Hayes on the All-Conference First Team was Allie Shamberger (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), who led the team with 79 points, tallying 45 goals and 34 assists on the season.

Roger Williams placed two players on the All-Conference Second Team, with Jamie Anthony (Somers, Conn.) and Molly Clark (Ramsey, N.J.) earning recognition for their strong performances throughout the year. Both players were key contributors, as Anthony, the junior captain, tallied 38 points with 31 goals, while Clark had seven caused turnovers on the season.

The Hawks also saw senior captain Lauren Canata (West Springfield, Mass.) and goalkeeper Aizza Chase (Cohasset, Mass.) named to the All-Conference Third Team. Canata was responsible for 41 points on the season, as Chase finished the regular season with 11 saves and nine wins on the year. 

In addition to her All-Conference recognition, Anthony was selected to the CNE Community Service Team, highlighting her commitment both on the field and within the community.

Roger Williams (10-8, 8-2 CNE) will take on No. 1 Endicott on Saturday, May 2 at 3:00 pm for the CNE Tournament Title.
